S'MORES PROTEIN MILKSHAKE (VEGAN)
Saying goodbye to summer with this chilly S’mores Protein Milkshake that’s dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan! I love the combo of dark chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker. And the homemade protein ice cream couldn’t be easier! No bananas needed ;)
Did you know? Protein helps you feel full by releasing appetite-suppressing hormones, slowing digestion, and stabilizing your blood sugar levels. (source) This is why including protein at every meal and snack is key to keeping hunger at bay!
Protein recommendations
For this protein smoothie recipe, I used LIV Body lean vegan protein in S'mores flavor (I know, how fitting). I love that this protein powder has no dairy or artificial ingredients, and it has added superfoods and probiotics! You can use my code SARAHWILKINS for free shipping on all LIV Body products :)
Due to the "no bake" nature of this recipe, you can use any protein powder that has a complementary flavor like chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, or marshmallow. You can also use pretty much any type of protein powder (whey, casein, vegan, or even collagen). I will say using a protein powder that dissolves like collagen may result in a less "thick" protein milkshake.
Sweetener recommendations
For your sweetener, I recommend using a natural sweetener that's sugar free to keep the sugar lower. I really love this one because it's powdered and mixes easily, plus it's free of free and erythritol, which can be problematic for some people. You can also use a monk fruit erythritol blend, powdered erythritol, powdered stevia erythritol blend, or even stevia drops.
Just keep in mind, you may prefer more or less sweetener depending on your tastes and how sweet your protein powder is!
Other ingredients
The only other ingredients you will need are your milk of choice, unsweetened cocoa or cacao, and pure vanilla extract.
I used unsweetened almond milk and my shake was plenty thick, however it would be more creamy if using oat milk or lactose free milk. For the unsweetened cocoa/cacao, just make sure you use a high quality one. I always use pure vanilla extract rather than artificial or imitation vanilla!
Optional toppings
I made this milkshake more fun with vegan mini marshmallows, melted dairy free dark chocolate, and gluten free graham crackers. Feel free to leave this off for a lower calorie version, or experiment with flavors of your own!
